October 21st – Saloons of Tucson – Book Discussion w/ author Homer Thiel

Join us from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, October 21st at Whiskey Del Bac for a book reading and discussion of Saloons of Tucson, with author and archaeologist, Homer Thiel.
Homer Thiel is a native of Traverse City, Michigan and has archaeology degrees from University of Michigan and Arizona State University. He has worked as a historical archaeologist in Tucson since 1992. In 2006 he led an excavation that uncovered the Cactus Saloon on N. Toole Avenue. During Covid he researched the history of every saloon in Tucson from 1860 to 1914, compiling the information for his book Saloons of Tucson, Arizona Territory.
Homer serves as a Board member for the Tucson Presidio Trust. As an archaeologist his professional work includes locating and excavating the walls and corner tower of the original Presidio San Agustín del Tucson, and excavating numerous other blocks in downtown Tucson.
The Presidio Museum is located on the site of the original Spanish Presidio San Agustin, whose establishment is considered the beginning of modern-day Tucson. The Presidio Museum is dedicated to promoting, preserving and interpreting the origins and history of Tucson and its natural environment.
Homer’s book, Saloons of Tucson, is a compilation of historical research, newspaper photos, and detailed descriptions of the saloons that once adorned the streets of Tucson, from 1860-1914.
This insightful lecture, book reading, and presentation will wrap up with a Q&A, providing you time to ask questions and engage with your fellow attendees. Books will be available for sale.
This event is open to all ages. Guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult.
$10/person with a portion of the proceeds donated to Presidio San Agustín in Tucson.
